The Causes of Heart Valve Damage
There are a number of reasons why a heart valve may be damaged. Congenital disabilities and illness can cause heart valves to operate less efficiently. They may allow blood to flow into the heart. In both cases, the damaged valve can be diagnosed with the help of auscultation of the heart, medical studies to look at the heart, and a study of the blood flow through the heart.
The first mechanical valves were implanted in the 1950s. The valves are usually made from steel, Molybdenum, and Pyrolytic carbon. There are new catheter-based techniques for the repair of regurgitant mitral valves and for the creation of foldable valves within stenotic aortic and pulmonary valves.
Mechanical Heart Valve

The Design and Performance of Valves
There are many valve designs and models that can be used in many industrial applications. All satisfy at least one function. It is important that a valve is constructed of the correct material for the process liquid, and that it is specified for the function.
The bonnet is the most important part of the opening in the body. bonnets are similar to valve bodies in design and model. A bonnet is a cover on the valve body and is cast or forged in the same material as the body.
It is connected to the body by a threaded, bolted, or welded joint. The internal components of the valve are put into the body and then the bonnet is attached to hold them together. The relation of the disk position to the seat is a factor that determines a Valve's trim performance.
Basic motions and flow control are possible because of the trim. The disk slides close to the seat to change the flow opening. The disk lifts away from the seat so that anvil appears.
The flow-medium properties, chemical composition, pressure, temperature, flow rate, velocity and viscosity are some of the important considerations in selecting suitable trim materials. The valve body or bonnet may have different trim materials. The seat or seal rings are used for seating.
The Use of Animal Tissues in Heart-Valve Replacement
The study found that valves made of animal tissue may be more dangerous than valves made of mechanical heart valves. The study shows that a mechanical valve is beneficial until the age of 70 for patients undergoing mitral valve replacement. The benefit of implanting mechanical valves ceased for patients undergoing aortic valve replacement after 55 years old.

Heart Valves with Congenital Four and Single Cusp
Rarely, Valves with congenital four and single cusp have been reported. The left coronary cusp covers the left main coronary arteries and the right main coronary arteries, the right coronary cusp covers the right main coronary arteries and the non-coronary cusp covers the non-coronary arteries. The normal valve area is 3.0 to 4.0 cm2.

The Function of a Safety Plug Valve

In the extreme upper position, fluid from the load is dumped into the tank or the port of T, and then the active flow goes from the pump port P to the load. The functions of ports A and B are reversed in the extreme lower position. The ports A and B are not open.
The design and orientation of heart valves
The vessel is 25mm in diameter and has the same shape. The length of the vessel is 100mm and the valve is 35mm away from the inlet as shown in fig. 11.16.
The mesh size of the fluid domain was chosen because of the large mesh size of the valve leaflet. The pulsatile inflow velocity is imposed at the inlet and the velocities at all the other locations are set to be zero. The blood compatibility of the carbon in the valves is not perfect, so it is necessary to have anticoagulant therapy.
The most successful material in heart valve applications is pyrolytic carbon, because it offers excellent blood and tissue compatibility, and the appropriate set of physical and mechanical properties, and it allows for practical implant device design and manufacture. When heart valves and other implants are used, a deadly or disabling disease is often treated by replacing it with a less pathological, more manageable chronic condition. An implant should not lead to a chronic condition.
The interplay between the biomaterial itself, design-related hemodynamic stresses, and the ultimate biological reaction are not fully understood, and it is important to recognize that. The mechanism for blood and tissue compatibility of pyrolytic carbon remains a challenge. It is worth repeating that the suitability of carbon materials from new sources for long-term implants is not assured simply because the material is carbon.
There are a wide range of possible structures and mechanical properties of erb carbon. Each new candidate carbon material requires a specific assessment of biocompatibility based on its own merits, not by reference to the successful General Atomic-type pyrolytic carbons. The design and orientation of the MHVs have a strong affect on the flow pattern of the heart.

Quarter-turn valves are used. The valve seat is a non- moving part of the body. There may be more than one seat in the valve.
The spool type valve
The valves are of the spool type. A profiled spool slides within a metal bore. The profile of the spool is what determines the number of positions the spool can take.
The valve is activated by the operator. Push button, pull button, push and pull, lever, key twist and pedal are popular for manual valves, while roller lever, uni-directional and rollerblades are popular in mechanical valves. There are also pilot return operated valves.
Artificial or Bioprosthetic Heart Valve Replacement
Artificial or bioprosthetic heart valves are used in valve replacement surgery when the heart valves are severely diseased. There is no medicine that can reverse heart valve disease and so valve replacement or valve repair is required. Artificial heart valves are made from metallic or plastic materials.
The valve tissue is mounted on a frame and is usually from animal. Those on long term blood thinners need to make lifestyle changes. Frequent visits to healthcare facilities are needed to have the blood thickness levels monitored.
Patients will need to avoid activities that are more than ordinary risk of bleeding. Increased deterioration can mean increased risk of reoperation. The risk of needing a reoperation is 25% in patients with a bioprosthetic valve.
Fluid Power Applications: Key Specifications of Cartridge Valves
Material selection is an important part of specifying valves to ensure compatibility with the fluid or powder that is passing through it. The size of the pipe is determined by the flow rate and the width between the flanges. Aerosol Valves are used to open aerosol cans.
The stem and housing are the primary components. Key specifications include the intended application, valve size, and materials of construction. Media can be considered as well.
Aerosol valves can open and close aerosol cans and deliver any product that is packaged in an aerosol can. Air Logic Valves are mechanical or electrical devices that can be used in place of electrical control in situations where electrical control is impractical. Key specifications include the type of actuator, number of ports, materials of construction, and switch speed.
Air logic valves are used in pneumatic systems as e-stops, pilot valves, one-shot valves, etc. Ball Valves are quarter-turn valves that have spheres that can be turned to either allow or block flow. Special designs allow for a degree of flow regulation.
The number of ports, port configuration, port connections, valve size, and materials that make up the valve body are some of the key specifications. Ball valves are used in almost any fluid flow shut off need. Ball valves can provide low head-loss characteristics as the port can match the pipe diameter.
